Take a break from tacos at this pretty little restaurant owned and run by an Italian. Valladolid is a small town but there are plenty of restaurants. While most of them are Mexican, this surprisingly good Italian one is a welcome change.
There are tables in a charming courtyard, and more dining room inside. The waiters are smart and attentive, and there is a list of daily specials. The house wine was decent enough, and you can get a selection of imported beers, such as Guinness.
We tried the calzone, absolutely massive, and the lasagna. Both were delicious, made with top-quality ingredients. The portions are quite large as well so you definitely won’t leave hungry.
It’s a beautiful setting for a restaurant, although the large gold Buddha statue in the courtyard doesn’t really sit with the rest of the décor. At least it adds a talking point, I guess.
Overall the dining experience was great, and I would highly recommend a visit to Casa Italia. The total bill came to $26 for two main courses and four glasses of wine. It’s slightly more expensive than the standard taco places all over town, but it’s worth paying a premium for great Italian in Mexico.
