Plan a trip around a top dessert destination like Switzerland and Belgium for chocolate, Italy for gelato or Paris for pastries.

Visit a restaurant or shop selling an over-the-top dessert, including outrageous milkshakes at Black Tap in New York City, cotton-candy-topped soft serve at CottonHi in Los Angeles and 20-layer chocolate peanut butter cake at Lavo in Las Vegas.

Watch a movie, like Chocolat or Waitress, where dessert takes a starring role.
Explore Other Options
While it’s hard to go wrong with an ice cream sundae or a slice of cake, you may miss out on some interesting desserts. Research traditional desserts from other countries and either try to recreate them on your own or visit a nearby restaurant that offers them on the menu.
