Tips / Travel

The holiday season is around the corner and so is unpredictable, severe winter weather. If you plan to travel during the sometimes-brutal season, follow our tips on the best way to cope with inclement weather.

  • Book a non-stop flight, if possible, in order to avoid missed connections.

  • Check the National Weather Service website frequently for up-to-date information.

  • Plan the best route and alternate route to the airport. You don’t want to be stuck if someone gets into an accident on a slippery road and causes a traffic jam.

  • Download your airline’s app and follow their social media channels for the latest information on delays and cancelations.

  • If it looks as though your connecting flight will be canceled or delayed, be proactive and try to change your reservations.

  • Pack a change of clothes and extra medication in your carry-on luggage. If you end up stranded without your checked luggage, you will have a back-up set of essentials.

  • Warm up your vehicle in an open space before driving.

  • Make sure your tires are properly inflated and your gas tank is at least half full.

  • Accelerate, drive and decelerate slowly. Everything takes longer on snow-covered roads.

  • Keep your devices fully charged in case of an emergency.

  • Stay home if reports warn of treacherous conditions. Your safety is most important!
