Creating a comprehensive packing list is one of the first steps toward having a successful and stress-free trip. So, how can you know where to start? What do you need to remember to add, and what’s best left behind?
If you’re an avid traveler, you probably already have a general idea of what you’ll need and, based on your destination, you’ll be able to customize your packing list for the journey. If it’s been a while since you hit the road, though, you may need a little more guidance. One easy way to get started is to think through your day-to-day activities and the items you use during each — if they’ll have an item at your destination (like a hairdryer or bathrobe), leave it off the list; if they won’t, add it. This will ensure you don’t forget any of your necessities. When it comes to packing clothing, think of each outfit you’ll need for each day of your trip, from your undergarments right up to your jewelry and other accessories.
Once you have a comprehensive list of everything you’ll need, start thinking of the things you want. Maybe you can only fly with a certain pillow, or maybe you wanted to take a special present for the friend you’re going to visit. Add those items to the list. When everything’s compiled, make sure your list is neat and user-friendly, instead of just a scribbled note on a scrap of paper.
There are plenty of packing list templates you can create online and print, as well as apps to check everything off digitally. If you still need a little more help, sites such as Her Packing List and The Universal Packing List can make sure you keep all of your ducks in a row.
