Why eat a turkey when you can hug one? The Gentle Barn is an organization, with three locations around the country, focused on connecting people to animals for a healing, healthy and educational experience. For Thanksgiving, The Gentle Barn hosts what it calls Gentle Thanksgiving, or a pre-meal celebration of turkeys.
Taking place at each of the three Gentle Barn locations — in California, Missouri and Tennessee — Gentle Thanksgiving takes place Nov. 24, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Visiting with the turkeys — yes, you really can pet and cuddle with them — at each location is the highlight of the day. The farms will also serve vegan pies and hot autumn drinks, as well as providing family-friendly music, games and crafts.

The experience is $25 per person and lasts about 1.5 hours, with timed entries for self-guided tours.
Not available for one of the organization’s Thanksgiving experiences? Or maybe you just can’t get over the thought of petting a turkey before you go eat one? Fair enough. The three Gentle Barn locations also offer private tours four days per week, as well as all-day experiences. Additionally, therapy sessions with horses, cows and the entire barnyard of animals are available.
