Daytrips From Florence

Florence is so rife with art, architecture and things to do and see it can seem unimaginable to leave the confines of the city. But just beyond the borders of the Tuscan capital lies a region ready to explore, view and taste. When considering a daytrip from Florence to the countryside, keep these worthy contenders in mind.

Pisa

Lovers of all things touristy should make a visit to this tiny university town where dozens of visitors try to get the most creative photo with the famous leaning tower. The neighboring cathedral is also a sight worth photographing, as is the Pisa Baptistery, located on the expansive lawn that leads up to the unmissable tower.

Lucca

This medieval walled city is located one hour by car, or 90 minutes by train, west of Florence and teems with history and charm. Stop for a coffee and people-watching in the oval Piazza Anfiteatro as you imagine the streets during the Renaissance era.

Siena

Siena is where two architectural styles converge as the city displays some of the region’s best examples of Gothic and Romanesque buildings, so much so Siena has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cinque Terre

Approximately two hours by car up the coast sits Cinque Terre, a series of coastal towns where colorful façades of homes line the rugged coast. Sample seafood dishes featuring fish caught the same day and watch fishermen bring their catch into the harbor.
