Exciting rumors have circulated since 2015 about a Star Wars-themed resort and park at Walt Disney Parks and, last month, Bob Chapek, chairman, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, confirmed some of the anticipated details.
During a special preview of D23 Expo 2017, Chapek unveiled a first look at the richly detailed model of the Star Wars-themed lands under development at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fla.
In addition to an elaborate park, slated to open in 2019, Chapek confirmed a Star Wars-inspired resort will debut as part of the new Disney 360 vacation concept. According to the chairman, the new vacation experience will be a living adventure, allowing guests to immerse themselves in a new form of Disney storytelling.
“It’s unlike anything that exists today,” said Chapek. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100 percent immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”
