Traveling to Switzerland in 2023? Your trip might be made all the more convenient thanks to the new GoldenPass Express Line, which stretches more than 71 miles between Montreux and Interlaken. The line opened in mid-December and is the first of its kind in terms of sustainability and engineering, linking two distinct regions of the country.
The GoldenPass Express Line is the culmination of more than 100 years of conception work, whisking travelers between Montreux and Interlaken in just more than three hours. There are more than a dozen stops along the way, though, for extra exploration as desired.
The train itself encompasses 23 carriages, split across first and second classes, with an extra Prestige class as well. Amenities include heated seats and a design facilitating the most scenic sightseeing experiences possible. As for its landmark engineering, the train features a variable gauge system that, for the first time, allows travelers to take one train only between the two regions, without switching to differing trains with differing gauge systems mid-journey.
This year, tickets for the GoldenPass Express Line will start at just less than $80 for a seat in second class. Advance ticket reservations are recommended for first and second class, while reservations are required for Prestige class.
