Explore Uluru’s Field of Light

Uluru and Ayers Rock is a destination already quite recognizable to most. A new art installation from Bruce Munro, which opened in April, however, is accenting this gorgeous setting in a brand new way. The Field of Light installation is also called Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku, meaning ‘looking at lots of beautiful lights’ in Pitjantjatjara, an Aborigine dialect spoken in the deserts of Central Australia. The installation is made up of 50,000 individual frosted-glass spheres set atop small stems, like beautiful flowers of light that come alive in the nighttime.

Pathways lead into the installation and travelers can choose to experience it in a variety of ways. There is the entry-level Field of Light pass, which includes hotel pick-up and transportation, and lasts about two hours. It allows guests to go at their own pace and starts at $36 per person. For $89, you can experience the exhibit at sunrise, enjoying a cup of coffee during a guided tour, or for $75, you can do nearly the same thing at night with the Star Pass, with a selection of Australian wines.

The Night At Field of Light packages are really the luxury way to go, though. Starting at $235, you can enjoy the exhibit for several hours while you enjoy canapés, wines, a three-course dinner and guided and non-guided tours. The experience can be upgraded to include tours by camel or helicopter.

While the tours are often sold out or fully booked, you don’t have to worry too much. The art installation will be on display until March 31, 2017, giving you plenty of time to make your reservations before your next trip to Australia.
