Tips / Travel

Fall travel and hiking adventures go hand-in-hand for good reason: stunning views of changing leaves, perfectly crisp weather for outdoor activity and lingering sunshine calling nature-lovers outside. What’s not to love?

Plan a relaxing fall hiking trip this year with this list of scenic treks.

Whiteside Mountain in Cashiers, North Carolina

East Coasters already know what a treasure trove North Carolina is for scenic hikes. Get on the trail for stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains for vistas stretching all the way to Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina on a clear day. The two-mile loop trail is short and manageable for all levels and parking is $2.

Silver Lake to Ontario Loop in Park City, Utah
This intermediate trek is foot traffic only, free of mountain bikes and a relatively quiet hike. The full trail is nearly four miles and dog-free. Expect snow-capped mountain views, rolling hills and blooming wildflowers, depending on the season.

Mule Deer Trail in Golden, Colorado
A more moderate hike stretching a 9.6-mile loop, Golden Gate Canyon State Park boasts the beloved Mule Deer Trail. Located in Golden, Colorado, about a 45-minute drive from Denver, this path offers stunning views, wildlife and quiet trails — great for hikes, trail running and dog-friendly nature walks.
