Health & Wellness

Hawai’ians have a high respect for mindfulness and rest and recognize the importance of “nanea,” the relaxation of the mind, body and spirit. With August National Wellness Month, travelers to the islands of Maui and Oahu can discover wellness experiences, each desiged to leave them in a state of nanea. For a Hawai’ian getaway that restores balance and indulges you in wellness-focused activities, check out these experiences from resorts around the state.

Yoga at Moana at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa

Set atop Puu Kekaa (Black Rock), Sheraton Maui Resort’s coveted Moana Oceanfront guestrooms offer the most stunning seascapes in Kaanapali. Moana floats above the ocean and invites guests to establish a renewed connection to the ocean’s timeless rhythm. Indulge in some self-guided yoga with complimentary yoga mats on Moana’s oceanfront lawn while taking in panoramic views.  If you prefer a guided class, the resort offers sunrise yoga, slow flow and stretch & release.

Partake in a Healing Morning Ritual

At Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, experience the Ho’ala Ritual on the beach, which helps rejuvenate mind, body and spirit. The experience starts with a brief chant by a cultural advisor. Then, guests are invited to step into the ocean to mindfully focus and prepare for their day ahead. At The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort guests can take part in a Hiuwai, a unique tradition practiced for centuries by Hawai’ians. Hiuwai is a spiritual bathing that takes place in the healing waters of Waikki called Kawehewehe. Guests are invited to the edge of the ocean in the morning to allow the salt and other elements from the water to bring balance to their lives. Both rituals are complimentary for guests at each resort.

Vegan Afternoon High Tea

High tea has been a tradition for more than a century at Moana Surfrider, as well as an unforgettable oceanfront experience. This summer, the Veranda culinary team introduces a vegan tea set to this beloved tradition. Enjoy the Soup & Sandwich, with Hamakua tomato gazpacho, taro croquette, crushed avocado and Ho Farms tomato tapenade, all served with savory green papaya and a mixed green salad with tea-infused dressing.

Learn to Surf from a Waikiki Beachboy

Indulge yourself in the Waikiki surf culture in the best way possible by learning from a Beachboy while staying at Sheraton Waikiki and The Royal Hawaiian. The award-winning Waikiki Beach Services team at both resorts features expert watermen and women. Whether you’ve been around the block a few times or have never touched a surfboard, Waikiki Beachboys can customize your lesson so you can get the most out of the experience.
