Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

The dramatic mountains of Ladakh, in the northwest Jammu and Kashmir area in north India, aren’t high on the bucket list of many travelers despite the awe-inspiring setting.

A new glamping experience may change that. The Ultimate Travelling Camp is bringing luxury tents to Thiksey and Diskit in Ladakh, known for its incredible scenery of Buddhist temples and soaring Himalayas. The camps are hoping to show off the local culture and allowing visitors access to the remote environment without shedding all the creature comforts of luxury travel.

Guests will have access to cultural experiences like monuments, monasteries, literature, art, fairs, and festivals. The region’s rituals, like the ancient sport of polo brought here in the 17th century or archery, are all available to try. Adventurous visitors can also raft the Indus River, or enjoy local hiking trails.

The camp consists of spacious, luxury tents outfitted with wooden chandeliers, four-poster beds, and more. The tents are triple-layered and waterproofed, and the interiors are climate controlled.

Each tent has an en-suite bathroom, hot shower and private deck. There’s WiFi in the reception tent, plus electricity, a library and a personal butler. The camp’s chef uses local ingredients to craft Indian meals along with international cuisines. The camp opened May 15 and is operating through September.
