Tips / Destination

Broadway is undergoing a surge in popularity, in addition to many Off-Broadway productions in New York City. The most recent smash hit Hamilton started out as such before moving to a bigger theater in 2015. Off-Broadway refers to venues between 100–499 seats, and Off-Off Broadway refers to theatres with fewer than 100 seats.

These kinds of venues are a great alternative if your favorite show is sold out or too expensive. Off-Broadway is also known for its more experimental style, born out of the slowly commercializing Broadway scene beginning in the 1950s. Like Hamilton, many famous productions started out with smaller audiences before gaining fame on Broadway. Examples include Rent, Avenue Q, Rock of Ages, Urinetown and Hair.

Like the venues of the Theater District, Off-Broadway tickets are available online at broadway.com. Many shows also conduct lotteries and rush tickets that can go for as little as $25. Some theaters even offer standing-room-only tickets if you don’t mind going without a seat.

Leave Troublesome Rideshare Worries Behind

We can see it now and remember when it happened to us: Watching as the black car icon loops around and around, seemingly endlessly, and our wait time on the rideshare app continually changes. Long wait times and confused drivers are just a few bothersome issues that can nag at rideshare users. Need a solution? Ditch rideshares altogether in favor of renting a car on your next trip.
