Escape the hustle and bustle of Cancun by staying in the small fishing village of Puerto Morelos, a 25-minute drive down the coast.
It’s a tiny place, but tourism is booming and there are lots of places to stay. Among the best is Hacienda Morelos, a modern, beachfront hotel that offers air-conditioned rooms with sea views.
The rooms are spotlessly clean, as are the common areas, and breakfast is included in the rate. There are plenty of breakfast options, all delicious.
There are sun loungers on the beach and around the pool, and you can take boat tours from the on-site travel office. Puerto Morelos is a small place, but there is loads to see and do on the water.
Sit on your balcony and watch the sunset, or have a few drinks in the pool area. The bar staff is attentive and there lots of beers and cocktails to choose from.
The king-sized beds are incredibly comfortable, and the air conditioning makes for a great night’s sleep. Showers are reliably powerful, and you are provided towels and toiletries.
All in all, it’s a great hotel, and you can find deals online for around $45 per night.
