Trends / History

Gettysburg offers a perfect chance to investigate and experience authentic Civil War history. Guests can stay at historic inns, tour the battlefield and visit the national cemetery at the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War.

The single bloody weekend in the 1860s made for one of the most haunted destinations in the country. Guests who find themselves looking on Gettysburg’s own tourism website will discover the town also leans into these rumors.

Countless television shows and movies focused on Gettysburg from a paranormal or haunted perspective. Ghost hunters have attempted to, and in some cases succeeded in, finding ghosts and spirits sticking around from the Civil War.

There are a number of different tours catering to all different kinds of tourists. Guests who wish to see the haunted side of Gettysburg from a technical standpoint can take the Gettysburg and Battlefield Paranormal Excursion. These tours allow small groups to use equipment to find ghosts.

Guests looking to learn a little more authentic history during their ghostly outing can take the History and Haunts tour, which promises to blend a proper retelling of history with a grounded look at paranormal investigations in the town.

The hauntings do not stop with tours, though. There are several hotels and inns in the town with a reputation as some of the most haunted places in the country.

According to Haunted Rooms, the most haunted hotel in Gettysburg is the Baladerry Inn, where guests can routinely see Civil War-era soldier ghosts in full uniforms around the property.
