Cuba’s most famous rum brand produces a number of different versions of the sugarcane spirit. Here is a brief guide to what to expect from the range.

First of all, it’s important to remember there are dark and white rums. White is generally used for cocktails such as mojitos and daquiris, while dark rums are favored for drinking straight.

Most likely you will find Añejo rums for sale in Cuba. They then move up in terms of age to Añejo 3 Years and Añejo 7 Years, with the older rums more expensive; 7 Years comes in a distinctive black bottle, and it’s a favorite for special occasions.

You can also find Añejo Reserva, aged longer, and the flavors woodier. In certain specialist stockists, you may find collections such as the Tributo Collection 2016, the Seleccion de Maestros and Añejo 15 Years.

If you’re on a budget, stick to the less-aged rums. If you’re taking a present home for someone, splash out on the special editions.
