For the past 25 years, New Hampshire has been home to a quirky fall festival that has put the town of Winchester on the map. The Winchester New Hampshire Pickle Festival, held this year on Sept. 23, is a fun way to explore the state’s southeastern corner while letting go of your serious side and spending the day celebrating, well, pickles!

This annual pickle party draws crowds upwards of 5,000 people each year, all who show up ready for fun and hungry for some of the delicious green snacks produced in abundance in the area. The event typically draws out the whole Winchester community, giving visitors the perfect chance to enjoy the charm of this small New England town.
The event, free to attend, runs all day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and features events like a pickle eating contest, a canning contest to discover the year’s best locally produced pickles, and, of course, the annual Pickle Parade. The Patriot Pickle Co. hands out free pickles while supplies last and the pickle eating contest occurs at 1:00 p.m., so be sure to get there early to get your free snacks and to sign up for the contest.

Food and craft vendors will be on hand to sell different types of pickles along with plenty of pickle-themed goodies and festival memorabilia, while live entertainment from Steel Rail, the Nelson Town Band, and the Shelburne Falls Military Band will keep the fun going. You can even get some great photos for your socials with your head on a pickle body thanks to fun photo cut-out boards. All you’ll need to do to prepare is show up ready to have fun (and with an empty stomach) and enjoy one of the most unique festivals of the fall season.

Insta FeedHow to Leave No Trace While Traveling
Visit any popular destination and you’ll find an abundance of one thing: tourists. While there’s nothing wrong with that — travel does, after all, bring us closer to the world around us — tourists have earned quite the negative reputation for leaving destinations worse for wear. Whether it’s a visitor climbing to the top of the temple at Chichen Itza or tourists scratching their name on the wall of Rome’s Colosseum, it seems humans are always leaving their mark on the places they visit.
