Trends / Adventure

Base jumping in Norway is an adrenaline junkie’s dream and a major attraction for adventure sport enthusiasts, but it wasn’t so easily accepted early on. Pioneered by skydiving professional Stein Edvardsen’s passion for base jumping, the sport was a fast favorite with local daredevils.

After years of research, practice, forming base-jumping committees, instilling rules and regulations and receiving the backing of the NBA organization, Stein and friends officially introduced base jumping to Norway.

With increased rules, regulations and stricter policies placed on base jumping and heliboogeing, jumpers are reportedly safer with decreased injuries and are able to embark on a jump from Kjerag. As one of the most beautiful and exciting bases to jump from in the world, access to Kjerag comes with extensive practice and experience, thanks to the safety efforts of the Stavanger Base Klubb.

Base jumpers and heliboogie enthusiasts jump from cliffside or helicopter exits amid the incredible landscape vistas and land safely and softly below. Thousands of jumps are recorded each summer when jumpers flock to Kjerag for the clear sunny days and furthest visibility.

Now one of the biggest drop zones in the world, Kjerag welcomes jumpers and visitors from all over to participate and watch the incredible sites and events.
