British Columbia’s Yoho National Park is the stuff of bucket lists: Muscular mountains rise sharply into fantastic formations that cup glaciers feeding massive waterfalls and otherworldly alpine lakes. Sitting just a 30-minute drive from Lake Louise, Yoho is often overshadowed by its neighbor in Alberta. But it’s definitely worth a visit.
If you come, your options for lodging are few — but they’re excellent. Inside the national park, you have three choices: Cathedral Mountain Lodge, the most accessible of the bunch, sits close to the highway and features a collection of cozy cabins under the shadow of towering Cathedral Mountain. A phenomenal dining room serves the best food in the park.
Not far away is Emerald Lake Lodge. Overnight visitors park at a designated lot and call for a shuttle bus, which runs 24/7, to pick them up for a five-minute ride to the lodge. Here, a stunning lake sits just a few feet away from the cabins, many of which offer great views to be enjoyed on a porch or from in front of the fireplace inside.
And finally, there’s Lake O’Hara Lodge, deep in the backcountry of the park. Just as posh as its siblings, Lake O’Hara is a tough one to book: Rooms and cabins fill up a year in advance. This lodge is also reachable by shuttle. Once here, the serenity of the spot, along with the stunning views, make it worth the effort.
