Tips / Travel

When you think of the mountains, you may naturally envision the snow, skiing and winter activities that attract tourists and visitors in season. Winter is commonly thought to be the best time to hit the slopes and spend a holiday cozying up by a fireplace, but a visit during the off-season can be equally as memorable.

Fall, when the leaves start to turn and the foliage is at its peak, is when the mountains can be at their most beautiful. If you love outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking or camping, fall may be the best time for a mountain trip.

Some ski resorts will stay open around this time as well, like Mount Snow in Vermont. Should you decide to hike up mountainside or take the lift to peak, you can reward yourself with a cold beer at the top and some spectacular views.

From here, you can see the entire countryside lit up with gorgeous oranges, yellows and reds for miles. In peak season the colors are bright and spectacular. The surrounding wildlife and temperate sunny weather on a nice fall day makes for absolutely beautiful scenery on a weekend getaway.
