For Halloween aficionados, a late-October wedding can be the perfect time to celebrate your love for all things spooky, and it can even be pulled off in a classy way when done right. After the wedding, if you want to keep the spooked theme going, choose one of these fantastic honeymoon destinations, where you’ll enjoy not only a great travel destination, but also a healthy dose of fanciful frights.
The dream honeymoon destination for many brides is Paris. The City of Lights may double as the city of romance, but that’s not quite the case down in the catacombs. What were once disused quarries in the late 18th century, these passageways received all of the remains from the city’s cemeteries for a period of about 30 years. Pair a visit with your traditional romantic time at the city’s best spots.
Scotland is a beautiful destination any time of year. Explore the country’s gorgeous rural areas, but make sure you and your beau make a stop at Edinburgh Castle. Edinburgh Castle is home to a myriad of ghosts living in the dungeon and within Mary Kings Close, an area used as a quarantined holding cell for abandoned Black Plague victims. Notable prisoners include Duke Alexander Stewart (who stabbed and burned the bodies of his guards) and Lady Janet Douglas (an accused witch).
South Africa continues to grow as a popular honeymoon destination, with spectacular weather and tons of sites worth seeing. Get your yearly ration of Halloween frights while there at the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest building in the country and a reminder of Dutch imperialism. The fortress held quite a few prisoners in horrific conditions and hosted just as many executions while it was in use, with prisoners frequently dying from the unchecked seasonal flooding of the dungeons.
