How To's

If you’re hoping to add an element of do-it-yourself to your wedding, centerpieces can be an attractive — but challenging — option. Succulent terrariums are easy to make yet elegant and in style.

To start, gather the materials you’ll need, including glass containers, plants and succulent soil. If you’re hoping to save money, shop for glass vases at a secondhand store like Goodwill or Salvation Army. These spots may have a wide variety of options if you’re open to mixing and matching. Just be sure the glass is all the same color.

Succulents are in vogue, so they’re usually easy to find. Most plant nurseries and garden supply stores carry them, and you can also order them online through Amazon or Etsy. Just be sure to choose plants small enough to fit in the containers; plants that come in one- or two-inch pots are ideal. Mix and match a variety of plants to increase visual appeal.

Search online for images of other, similar terrariums to get an idea of how to arrange the plants in the containers. This post on Offbeat Bride gives several examples. You might consider adding rocks or sand for another element. Just remember that with these types of centerpieces, less is more; their minimalism is part of the appeal.
