The art of packing is one that requires time and many trips to refine. There are countless sites out there that can offer advice on what to pack and how, but the reigning wisdom of the day still insists if it is good enough for a weekend, it is good enough for a week.
So, taking into account a few extras, you should require the same amount of packing space for a three-day trip as you do for a weeklong one. The prevailing wisdom of the day is to think smart and come up with some sort of uniform that involves layering. This does not mean you wear the same black pants while rotating three different shirts — it can if you want it to, of course — but rather that you know your style and plan ahead for what you are going to wear. Create three outfits and three layer swaps.
If you are packing for a week as opposed to a weekend, you may want to add in an extra two layers for variation. A layer can be anything from a t-shirt to a blouse or a bold pair of tights. When it comes to shoes, always apply the “might” rule, which means if you know don’t know for sure if you will definitely wear it, don’t bring it. Throw a dryer sheet into your luggage to keep things fresh and head out the door.
