How to Pass the Time During a Long Layover

Tips / Travel

When facing a long layover or a lengthy delay before your next flight, the airport can seem like a dry extension of the plane´s cabin. If you´re feeling cramped and need to explore, here are a few ways to pass the hours until your next flight.

Leave the Airport

Feeling claustrophobic? Go outside! If your layover is long enough and there are easy ways to commute into the nearest city, getting out of the airport may be an adventurous option. Some airports have lockers where you can store your luggage so you´ll be free of heavy bags as you explore the outside world. Researching your options before your trip is the best way to maneuver this feat if presented with the option.

Find the Nearest Spa

In-airport spas are becoming more commonplace as hectic travelers look for ways to decompress between flights. If you´re fortunate enough to land at an airport with a spa, stop by for a quick massage or facial, time permitting. As stressful as travel can be, a brief spa visit can assuage the senses.

Post Up at the Airport Bars

Whether you´re traveling solo or with company, perching yourself at an airport bar is a great way to pass the time, socialize with other travelers or catch a few plays of the big game. Strike up a conversation with fellow imbibers and maybe make a few new friends.

Stretch Your Legs

Major airports can cover a substantial amount of land, which provides a perfect excuse to pile your luggage on a trolley and pretend you´re a mall walker. People watch while you walk and stop to shop if you pass an enticing storefront.
