Tips / Travel

After a long flight of many hours and possibly many layovers, the last thing you´ll want to see as you de-board is an endless line at the customs counter. Thankfully, we´ve provided some helpful hints that can help you get through customs quickly and efficiently.

Opt for the kiosks. Many airports across the country have set up easy-to-use kiosks that not only save time, but they also save paper. After waiting in a quickly moving line, first walk up to one of the kiosks, answer a few simple security questions and prepare to have your photograph taken for security purposes. The kiosk prints a confirmation voucher you need to show (along with your passport) to the customs control officer. Thanks to technology, the days spent waiting in a long line for one person to peruse your passport are over!

Download Mobile Passport. Introduced in 2012, this mobile app allows you to enter your flight information (airline, arrival time, etc.), take a security selfie and answer security questions before you even arrive at the immigration kiosks. Once your information has been entered, the application expires in four hours during which you should go directly to customs. Show both your passport and the code on your mobile phone to slide through customs with the greatest of ease. The only downside is the app is currently in its introductory period, however, and can only be used at select airports.

Take a deep breath. Whether you have to wait awhile or you luck out with no lines, customs can be a lengthy and arduous process. Breathe, relax and try to enjoy these few moments when everyone is in the same impatient boat.
