How To Throw a Classy Wedding in a Barn

Rustic chic is in when it comes to weddings, but it can be challenging to find a space that is authentically rustic without it also being a little rough around the edges. To throw a wedding in a barn or similar space that’s classy, stick to these rules of thumb:

1. Be prepared to outfit the space. Barns — except the ones that are dedicated as event space — don’t come with lighting, sound systems and tables and chairs. Be prepared to rent all of this and make sure the rental company is prepared to set up at the site you’ve chosen.

2. Check local sound ordinance rules to make sure you’re not partying illegally loudly.

3. Consider the grounds when choosing your location. If there’s grass, will it be muddy if it rains the day before? Is there enough parking? Should guests be advised not to wear heels? Are bugs or animal smells going to be a problem?

4. Consider practical and fun guest favors like umbrellas, flashlights and sunglasses.

5. Make sure there’s a bathroom nearby, and direct guests to it and other important areas.

6. Dress up the space with lots of flowers and other, more chic elements like tablecloths and ribbons. It will offset the harshness of the space and add an air of elegance.
