Tips / Travel

When packing for your beach or resort vacation, traveling light is essential. Instead of bringing multiple skirts, dresses and shawls, pack a wrap dress and fly in style. Wrap dresses are a versatile wardrobe staple that can easily transition for poolside to an evening on the town.

When choosing a wrap dress, look for a cotton or cotton blend. Dark colors work best for nighttime while colorful patterns lend a more tropical feel. Wraps are also called saris and come in a variety of dimensions — make sure your wrap is large enough to cover yourself and to tie off. Additionally, safety pins, clasps, brooches and ribbon or tie belts help keep your ensemble together.

The most basic way to wear a wrap is to tie it off as a skirt at your hip. Depending on your desired look, you may need to add additional knots or pins along the length of the skirt to prevent a high slit.

Next, try making a column dress by tying the knot closer to your bust and adding additional pins and knots along the length of the dress. Tie a ribbon belt at your waist to add definition.

Alternately create a draped, Grecian one-shoulder dress by knotting the fabric over one shoulder and securing the fabric in place with pins and a ribbon belt.

Tie the wrap dress around the handles of your purse or stash it in your bag to use as a shawl. Enjoy your versatile wrap dress and lighten your luggage.
