Trends / LGBTQIA+

The Philippines is widely renowned for its friendliness toward LGBT travelers and Boracay is no exception. There’s something here for everyone and you’ll have no trouble finding places to stay, dine and dance.

Gay-friendly hotels in the city include Henann Lagoon Resort and the Shangri La Resort and Spa, though you’ll also feel right at home in local hostels if that’s more suited to your budget.

For a good meal, head to Los Indios Bravos, highly rated by guests for good reason. It’s exceedingly gay friendly and offers up delicious, traditional Filipino food. For a little bit of fun, check out the Mermaid Swimming Academy. Not only will the staff not even bat an eyelash at a couple of guys dressing up as mermaids, but you’ll get some pretty hilarious photos out of the deal, too.

Though Boracay used to be home to a few gay bars, most of them have integrated with the others, so there are no gay-specific venues. However, popular joints like EPIC and Encore are usually teeming with gay men and women looking to dance.

Overall, Boracay is about as gay-friendly as it gets, so you can relax and let loose while you’re here exploring the spectacular Filipino culture and dining on some pretty darn good food.
