LGBT: Delhi

New Delhi is something of an enigma when it comes to gay culture in India. The country recriminalized homosexuality in 2013, but from the vibe and wealth of activities available here for LGBT men and women you might not know it. It certainly feels like a safer environment for gay men and women, more than any other city in India.

In November, the city hosts one of the largest gay pride parades in all of Asia, one of the biggest in the world even, where the focus is on celebration rather than protestation.

For those hoping to enjoy a fun night on the top there are a few gay-friendly bars around. Zoo Bar, for instance, is a popular spot among the locals. There’s also Kuki, Cibo and Peppers if you want to make a full night of it or get in a little bar crawl while you’re there.

There’s no specific gay district, per se, but you can find plenty of shops and cafes friendly toward gay clientele in the city. As long as you keep your wits about you and behave somewhat conservatively in terms of PDA, you should be just fine being yourself anywhere you go in New Delhi.

Follow the laws and don’t make a scene and you’ll fit in well.
