The Caribbean region is made up of a cluster of islands in the Caribbean Sea. Tourists flock to this destination for vacations year-round. Many of the islands in the Caribbean offer popular activities and attractions for LGBTQ visitors.
Puerto Rico is one of the most LGBTQ-friendly destinations in the Caribbean. The country’s capital, San Juan, is perhaps the liveliest city in Puerto Rico for LGBTQ visitors. The trendy neighborhoods of Condado and Santurce are full of resorts, restaurants, gay beaches, nightclubs and bars. Vieques Island is another popular LGBTQ destination in Puerto Rico with its luxury resorts and pristine beaches. Curaçao is home to an annual pride festival in the Caribbean. The schedule for the week-long event is packed with parties, dancing and live entertainment. St. Martin/St. Maarten feature several adults-only properties with European charm in a classic Caribbean setting. The U.S. Virgin Islands is home to luxurious resorts, exciting nightlife and a welcoming atmosphere on its islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John.
Generally, countries under European rule are the most accepting of LGBTQ individuals. Not all countries in the Caribbean are safe for LGBTQ travelers, including Jamaica, Dominica, St Kitts & Nevis, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago. Be sure to do your research before booking your trip to those destinations.
