Trends / LGBTQIA+

Cambodia has one of the most LGBTQ-friendly climates in Southeast Asia. While not large, the capital city of Phnom Penh does contain something of a gay scene.

The city has hosted a gay pride event, however small, since 2003. You can also find plenty of gay establishments dotting the streets and, in most instances, nobody bats an eye at two members of the same gender holding hands.

Nightlife in Phnom Penh is centered on the downtown area and many of the gay nightclubs and bars are within walking distance of one another. Space Hair Salon and Bar is one of the most popular, along with AV Bar 225. Blue Chilli is one of the oldest establishments in the city and draws a large crowd on the weekends for its drag shows.

Phnom Penh also has two hotels that cater specifically to gay clientele, though you’ll find yourself welcome no matter where you choose to book. Rambutan is a popular gay resort and contains a swimming pool and spa on a quiet street near most attractions. Arthur and Paul is another friendly hotel designated for men only.

For a bite to eat, check out Fat Passion or Vapor Restaurant before hitting the streets to check out popular attractions in town. Some cultural hot spots include Art Street, the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum and the city’s popular Night Market.
