Products / Entertainment

Live sports and news are now available for streaming on a slew of platforms, perfect for travelers who want to catch a hometown game while on the road. Products like Sling and YouTube TV are also great for cord cutters who don’t want to pay for a cable subscription. These five streaming platforms are also much more intuitive than your clunky set top box.

Hulu, receiving praise for its original programming, is the latest subscription video service to offer live TV. It, along with YouTube, offers only one set of channels. Sling, PlayStation Vue and DirecTV Now offer a range of packages depending on your tastes. This is great for people who don’t need sports or prefer watching entertainment networks.

CNN is curiously unavailable on YouTube TV. ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNNEWS are available on all five. HBO is a premium offering on Sling, PlayStation and DirecTV, but you can always subscribe to HBO Go if you’re on Hulu or YouTube TV; the price is about the same.

If you need on-demand streaming, be sure to check what the service offers. Hulu has an extensive library, but Sling only offers the last episode on a rolling basis. YouTube TV has unlimited DVR saved for nine months, but you’re going to have to watch ads.

CNET has a handy chart if you want to see the complete channel listing.
