Major Hotel Chains Go Green

Environmental friendliness is an aspect of travel no longer just an added bonus but rather almost standard in any modern-day hotel. Hotels around the world have implemented eco-conscious initiatives in their properties to contribute to the global effort to maintain and protect the environment. Some of the newer brands to go green include the properties below, building a name for themselves in the ever-evolving world of eco-friendly travel.

One example of a hotel chain going green is Kimpton Hotels, which partnered with Clean the World to amass used and unused guest soap to donate to less affluent countries. Ace Hotels constructs its properties using recycled materials from old buildings and houses, including the furniture. Ace Hotels also recycles its food scraps, which are turned into mulch and fertilizer for local farms.

1 Hotels Group is known for its green initiatives, the latest of which can be seen at their third property in Brooklyn, N.Y. Underneath the hotel, a rainwater tank collects water and pumps it into Brooklyn Bridge Park, and the interior of the hotel is decorated using recycled, local materials like walnut and bark.

Boutique brand NYLO Hotels outfits all its properties with energy-efficient lightbulbs and uses wind to power approximately half of its facilities and guestrooms.
