While North America experienced its show-stopping eclipse late last year, South America boasts its own eclipse in 2019. On July 2, the solar event will occur over Argentina and Chile and you can experience all the grandeur, plus some other exciting adventures, with a small group tour by Grand American Adventures.
“The 2019 eclipse is so special because it will be the first one since the Great American Eclipse in August 2017, which was the most talked about ever. That awakened a whole generation to the majesty of a total solar eclipse, but the next two are both in South America. We’ll experience this first one in Chile’s Elqui Valley, which as well as being a spectacular setting for the eclipse, is also home to some sparkling night skies,” noted Jamie Carter, leading eclipse expert and host of one of the tour brand’s eclipse events.
For wine aficionados, Grand American Adventures offers Argentina Eclipse: Wine Region. A 12-day tour starts in Buenos Aires, with a half-day city tour and a few days to explore on your own, before flying to Mendoza, to stay in the small village of Jachal, with its plentiful vineyards and olive groves. It’s there you’ll witness the eclipse. Other activities during the stay include a full winery excursion, tours of two national parks and a visit to a nature observatory. The experience starts at $4,725 per person and includes 11 nights’ accommodations, all itinerary activities, tour and transportation services throughout, internal flights, 11 breakfasts and four lunches.
For the outdoorsmen and women, the Argentina Eclipse: Salta Region takes place over the same time frame, with guests arriving in Jachal July 2 to witness the eclipse, but also exploring Argentina’s other natural wonders. Highlights include tours of Buenos Aires, national parks and architectural sites. This particular tour starts at $5,115 per person, and includes 11 nights’ accommodations, itinerary activities, tour and transportation services, two flights and 11 breakfasts and two lunches.
