A new offering from Welles hopes to “make sun safety sexy,” as well as sustainable. The new UPF 50+ base layer option uses HeatSense fabric technology to block not only UV rays outdoors, but also light emitted in indoor, clinical settings. The moisture-wicking fabric is stretchable, and the base layer tops for both men and women can be worn solo or layered.

Welles, a brand focusing on sustainable and stylish clothing for the health care industry, stresses SolBase can be worn in so many other places beyond a clinical setting — from the beach to the pool, boardwalk to boardroom. Each SolBase piece is made using patented CiCLO technology that incorporates a bio-additive ingredient, which allows the fibers to more easily degrade once they arrive in the landfill. Materials are also tested against a list of up to 350 toxins to ensure all products are safe for sensitive skin. Pieces are also made with a manufacturing process that reduces water by up to 70 percent using a closed-loop water recycling system.
Both the SolBase women’s and men’s base layers come in two colors — light blue and navy — and start at $46. Inclusive sizing is available as well, from XS to 3XL.
