Tips / Travel

The word souvenir is French for to remember, but the tacky t-shirts and plastic keychains that clutter souvenir shops and tourist attractions in cities all over the world hardly evoke great memories of the place itself. Next time you travel, skip the trinkets and bring home these meaningful souvenirs instead.

Jewelry and Art: Buying local, hand-crafted jewelry and art can be a great and affordable way to bring home a meaningful and beautiful souvenir while also supporting the community you’re visiting. Local artists often sell original paintings and sketches of local scenery, landmarks and monuments, while jewelry may be made from locally crafted beads or metals.

Notes and Photographs: Documenting your favorite cafés, excursions and hotels can be helpful in reliving your trip later on, and can be great to pass along to friends and family who come to you for travel advice.

Friends: The best part of traveling is the people you meet along the way. Exchange addresses, emails and social media accounts with friends you meet during your trip as a way to stay in touch and make sure your adventures live on in a new friendship.
