Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

There’s an old nursery rhyme about an Old Lady who lived in a shoe, but that seems a little outdated. Swap the shoe for a shoebox and you’ve stumbled upon the latest trend in small-space living. Micro-homes are shoebox-sized accommodations that challenge the notion that bigger is always better.

According to Nomad, micro-homes are an affordable alternative to traditional living arrangements. Nomad assembles their micro-homes in British Columbia, Canada, and ships to customers across the world. These tiny houses are complete with living area, kitchen, bathroom and sleeping area.

The price tag is as small as the square footage, only $3,000 down and $390 per month, according to Nomad. Choose from three different models — Live, Space or Grow — and get your new home delivered to a destination of your choice. The new homes are fully customizable and come with optional add-ins such as shelves and outdoor storage.

While micro-homes are an exciting experiment in minimalism, they are probably not for the majority of people. Most micro-homes are the size of a master bedroom or tiny studio apartment. Consider micro-homes the answer to vacation rentals or an ungraded cabin-in-the-woods rather than a new place to hang your hat.
