In the age of the smartphone, it is becoming easier and easier for us to accomplish things by just using a cell phone, even in the often stressful world of travel. For a few years now, we have been able to book flights on our phones and have our airline tickets scanned right from our smartphone. Now, Delta Air Lines flight attendants are using smartphones to take orders and process credit cards. Upgrades to better seats can also be purchased this way, and attendants can scan coupons from traveler’s mobile devices.
Starting next year, you will want to keep your phone charged, because once you’ve landed, you can use it for self service at certain hotels, as well. Starwood and Hilton are developing apps that will allow you to skip waiting in line at the front desk and go straight to your room, using your phone as the room key. If you’re still not feeling talkative once you’ve settled in, you’ll be able to order room service on your smartphone. Guests can further customize their stay at full-service hotels by purchasing upgrades and requesting specific amenities be delivered to their room before arrival. Check-out is just as simple, and the bill is automatically sent to your email address.
Of course, you will still have the option to connect one-on-one with an actual person, but this new technology will be helpful for those who are just too tired or are on a time crunch after a long flight.
