San Francisco is a big city to navigate, and some modes of transportation can be confusing for those not familiar with the area. Here are some of the main modes of transportation locals and tourists use to get around the Bay Area.
The BART is the most commonly used mode of public transportation in SF. The rapid rail line is a reasonably fast and inexpensive way to get around. It takes you throughout the city, as well as to the surrounding areas of Oakland, Richmond and Fremont.
Muni is the bus and metro system in the city; it runs buses, trains, cable cars and the F-Line. Stops are found on the island in the center of the roadway. Muni also has a helpful app for ticketing and schedules available for iPhones and Androids.
Walking
If you’re up for the steep hills of the city, SF can be pretty walkable, depending on your location and destination. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Uber has taken over in many cities as the primary mode of transportation. Its convenience and affordability rival taxis and even public transportation.
