Nervous travelers can harbor extreme anxiety at every stage of the flying process, but with a new mobile app, their worries can be put at ease. SkyGuru can quiet travelers’ nerves and offer solace, even when in airplane mode.
Worried passengers who feel like they lose control after buckling themselves into an airplane seat will be able to harness a small amount of control by understanding exactly what is going on during their flight. The app’s technology provides turbulence and weather forecasts so travelers can learn when bumps might occur during the flight. There is also a list of possible sounds and feelings present during any standard flight, which clues passengers into the meaning of every strange scratch or buzz.
The app was developed by a pilot and psychiatrist who specialize in the fear of flying, or aerophobia. To use the app, travelers can enter their flight number up to 24 hours before take-off, and real-time data will link with the specific flight’s trajectory. For travelers who require an iota of control during their out-of-control experience, SkyGuru keeps the worried passenger informed so they know what to expect and can adequately prepare. By contesting the idea ignorance is bliss, mental preparation assuages the nervous.
