If you want to travel with your pet but you’re worried about Fido’s safety and comfort when flying through the air, John F. Kennedy International Airport just outside of New York City will soon be able to put your mind about your pet’s wellbeing at ease.
JFK’s new pet terminal will mimic a frequent flyer’s executive lounge providing for your pets a cozy and comfortable pre- and post-flight experience. The terminal will feature a spa-like atmosphere with grooming services, massages, a splash pool and other luxury amenities in 178,000 square feet of space.
Separated by animal, dogs will enjoy their own space of 20,000 square feet where they can play with other pups and wait to travel with their masters or spend the night until their owners return. The space will serve as both a holding area for traveling pets as well as overnight accommodations for owners who will leave their pets behind for a short stay. Starting at $100 per night, dogs will enjoy a full-sized bed and a flat-screen television.
Cats will have access to their own jungle gym with custom-made trees perfect for clawing and climbing.
“The Ark” will replace JFK’s previously existing kennel, which has been in operation for 60 years and is in need of serious updating. Currently under construction, the facility is scheduled to open in 2016.
