The city that never sleeps experienced a recent sugar rush. The first-ever New York dessert festival took place Oct. 23, and welcomed more than 20 vendors. Aptly named Dessert Goals, the festival of sweets launched in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood and featured dessert tastings, demonstrations, instructional sessions and an Instagram photo garden to celebrate the sweet treats. The day ended with a rooftop soiree under the stars with views of Manhattan in the background.
Vendors for the confectionery carnival included some of the best dessert shops from all five boroughs, including Wowfulls’ Hong Kong egg waffles, Bittles cake bites, Butter Lane’s all-natural cupcakes and Cookie DO samples. To accompany the litany of sugar-pumping sweets, attendees had unlimited access to freshly brewed coffee from Chelsea-based Intelligentsia.
Specialized workshops were available for an additional fee and instructed guests on the best ways to snap photos of dessert for Instagram and how to start a food blog.
Whether this festival will become an annual event for New York is still unknown, but so long as creative dessert hybrids continue to make their way onto the sweet scene, there will always be someone who will eat them.
