Nestled between the Isle of Wright and the mainland of England, in the strait known as the Solent, sits a vacation venue unlike any other — No Man’s Land Fort. Built 150 years ago, this naval fort was originally intended to defend the nearby city of Portsmouth from the French throughout the latter half of the 19th century.
Recently, the Fort reopened and is available to the public as a hotel. The 75,000-square-foot fort features 22 suites, five function rooms and an amazing, working lighthouse. Other notables include a swimming pool on the interior, a hot tub on the top deck, two helipads and a driving range for guests to hit golf balls into the glimmering ocean.
While many use the fort as a home base for their water activities, jet skiing and yachting, others choose to host corporate outings, parties and even weddings at this location. Perhaps the greatest focal point of the entire structure is the enormous glass skylight spanning much of the roof and sitting above the largest function room. While only 44 guests can spend the night in rooms starting at £400 ($440) per night, during the day, the fort can hold up to 200.
