‘Tis the season to be jolly, and that usually means it’s time to shell out a bunch of money buying gifts for family and friends. Luckily, plenty of markets open up around the world during this time so it’s easy for intrepid travelers to find goods to send home to those we love.

One of the best markets in the world is the Nuremberg Christmas Market. This spectacular event begins each year around the middle of November and stays open for the month leading up to everyone’s favorite winter holiday.

Close to 200 stalls peddling handcrafted goods are set up in the main square of Nuremberg and thousands of people visit each year. You’ll find goods ranging from decorations to tasty delicacies you can only find in Germany, so you’re sure to find something to bring home for the people you care about, or maybe just keep for yourself.

The market has been operating since at least the 1600s, making it one of the oldest in existence. As if that weren’t enough, just north of the Nuremberg Christmas Market lies the Sister Cities Market, which contains numerous art exhibits and crafts from all around the country and world.

It’s truly one of the most inspirational and fun opportunities to do a little overseas shopping you’ll ever find.
