Tips / Safety

While we never hope they never happen, emergencies while traveling do. It’s best to prepare as well as you can in these situations so you are not left without a plan and in a tough spot.

Register at the U.S. Embassy

Let your country of origin know you’re traveling abroad. This way, if anything happens in the country you are visiting, such as a natural disaster or terror attack, your whereabouts are known and your relatives can be informed. It also provides travelers with travel warnings, updates, alerts and more.

Have Backups

In the case of theft or lost items, you’ll want to keep some back-up cards, ID and other documents in a safe spot. Making photocopies of ID, passports and cards can come in handy when filing a report and getting replacements. You should also carry cash you can use in a pinch.

Invest in Travel Insurance

Having travel insurance is the ultimate back-up plan when traveling. It may seem superfluous when you don’t need it, but invaluable when you do. Research your best options for your trip using this comparison tool.
