Recline and Relax on Your Next Flight with Sleeping Boxes

Unless you’ve become a professional at sleeping while sitting upright, traveling on red-eye flights or trying to sleep on planes is a nearly impossible feat. Business-class passengers may have it easy with the ability to lie down, but the majority of frequent flyers may struggle when it comes time to turn down the cabin lights during an overnight flight.

Fortunately for troubled sleepers, a patent has been submitted by Airbus that would allow even economy-class passengers to recline in luxury when the time comes for an in-the-air nap. The design illustrates a sleeping box: a padded rectangular space that would be stacked on top of and next to other sleeping boxes, located in the rear of the plane. Your private box would include a television, a reading light and pillows for comfort. Each box would also feature a video camera so passengers could be monitored by flight crews for the safety of other passengers.

Flight boxers will have meal service just like seated passengers, as well as access to all other in-flight amenities.

Those interested in reserving a sleeping box for a flight can either reserve a box alone or can reserve a seat and a box. Travelers who are flying together can reserve both a box and a seat. The proposal is currently in the review phase but if approved, sleep boxes could drastically change the flying experience for troubled sleepers.
