Do images of your retirement include sitting on a white-sand beach in Florida? While retirement may be a long way off, a new study shows you may want to reconsider living out your sunset years in the Sunshine State.
Around 47 percent of the American public would consider moving when they retire, according to a study by Bankrate.com. The study looked at the best states to retire based on factors like cost of living, weather and health care.
Surprisingly, Florida did not make the top 10 list.
“Our latest ranking of the best and worst states to retire finds the fun-in-the-sun places often associated with retirement may have drawbacks as we face aging issues and our savings dwindle,” it says. “Retiree meccas like Florida and Arizona don’t come close to cracking our top 10.”
Instead, the study suggests you may want to consider states like New Hampshire, Colorado and Maine, as these places ranked higher when considered for cost of living, weather, quality of health care, crime rate, cultural vitality, tax rate, overall wellbeing of seniors in that state and the number of seniors that make up the total population.
