Bistrot Caraibes holds the honor of being the most highly rated restaurant in all of St Martin across multiple platforms. As such, I had to try it. While I can’t argue with the fact this joint serves up some delicious food, I was a tad disappointed with the overall experience. All of the hype might have just set my expectations a little too high.
The mix of French cuisine and seafood is always a winning combination and the lobster thermidor here is exceptional. The service, however, wasn’t the best on the island. I found the staff somewhat stuffy, though professional. I can see why it is well liked by honeymooners, but it doesn’t cater well to the casual diner.
The wine selection is extensive and the waiters are happy to make suggestions, though I found nothing worth writing home about.
The atmosphere is slightly upscale, though not what you might expect when accompanied by such extravagant prices. If asked, I can’t say I found the money spent to be worth it.
On my return to St Martin, I don’t see myself returning to Bistrot Caraibes, nor can I recommend it to friends and family.
