El Navarro is an unassuming eatery tucked between two British bars in an unremarkable area of Costa Teguise on Lanzarote. The restaurant might not look like much from the exterior, but the delicious cuisine inside packs quite the punch.
To enjoy a meal at El Navarro you typically have to reserve your spot a few days in advance. Whether that is due to the small size of the restaurant, or the popularity of its food is anyone’s guess — though it’s likely a combination of both. The menu features local ingredients and a terrific variety of seafood alongside meat dishes. The risotto is top-notch and the wine selection is one of the best on the island.
The smoked salmon with pine nut sauce was absolutely stunning, and worth a second helping on its own. The atmosphere manages to maintain a great balance between laidback and elegant. The wait staff is extraordinary — knowledgeable about the menu, the island, and friendly and willing to offer suggestions for things to try both inside the restaurant and out.
If there’s a flaw at El Navarro it’s a small one: The prices are high. While the food is exceptional, it does cost a little more to eat here than similar restaurants on the island. However, the food and service are among the best, and well worth a few extra dollars.
