Most visitors to London would never think of visiting New Malden, or Little Korea as it is known, but the restaurants make it worth your while.
Jin Go Gae is one of the best in town, receiving rave reviews from locals and tourists alike. On a Wednesday evening the place was busy with families, groups and couples chowing down on Korean favorites.
Beginning with kimchee, Par-jeon seafood pancake and Mandu dumplings, things get off to a great start. The kimchee is zesty, while the pancake and dumplings are comfortingly greasy without being too much.
Next up is the hot-pot Jam-pong soup, served in a huge bowl over a camping stove at the table. The cooking process is finished here, in front of our eyes, making us hungrier and hungrier while we wait. Once ready, its mixed seafood and pork is simply delicious.
There are plenty of Korean classics on the menu, including a selection of bibimbap. In fact, there is a lot of choice, so it’s probably best to come in a large group and fire up the table-top charcoal grill.
You can get wine, Korean beer, tea or soft drinks to wash down your meal, as well as rice wine if you are really celebrating. Overall, Jin Go Gae is a great spot to sample Korean cuisine, in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
